My Favorite Organizing Tool

I have a thing for lazy susans! My mom always had at least one inside a kitchen cabinet while I was growing up, holding random things like the sugar bowl and toothpicks – things we used often.

Now, I’ve got them everywhere! Not really, but I do have a lot of them, and I think that they are a wonderful way to keep things not only organized, but accessible!

In the Pantry

I’m lucky, because I have a large walk-in pantry. But the space still gets used up quickly with the varying needs of my family. I originally stacked all of my canned goods on one shelf. It was an OK system, but I invariably needed the can that lurked behind another one, knocking things over in the process. Or, my husband or daughter would buy something and mess up my nicely arranged system of cans.

After re-arranging the pantry multiple times, I decided to buy lazy susans. Best idea ever! I measured the width and depth of the shelf, then I found some at a big box store that were perfect.

The surprising thing was that the lazy susans held way more than my previous stacking method! I can still stack cans on the lazy susan if I need to, but it is now so easy to see what I have and be able to grab it without knocking things over. Since I bought several, I organize them by the type of food – one is dedicated to tomato products (tomato sauce, paste, marinara), another holds soups, etc.

In addition to the pantry, I also use lazy susans under my kitchen and bathroom sinks. I found some at Target that have sides, so the items in them won’t fall over. These are great for holding my cleaning supplies in the kitchen, and it keeps all of my hair and beauty supplies organized in my bathroom. I even bought one for my husband!

While thinking about how much I love these, another thought just occurred to me. I don’t have any in the garage! This will be a great use to store all of those cans of spray paint! Happy spinning!
